All of the recommendations below have been made based on our experiences with current users of the AVM-2000 software. However, every company's individual situation is slightly different. Please feel free to contact us to discuss your network setup or any concerns that you may have.
The AVM-2000 Version 6 software has been tested and runs on Windows XP, SP2, 32-bit (but not 64-bit); Windows VISTA; Windows 7, 32-bit or 64-bit, Windows 8 and Windows 10. Use of Windows 10 may require settings changes in the operating system. Please see our Windows 10 Recommendations (pdf).
For recommendations for Server 2008, 2012, etc. or Windows OS used as a peer to peer server, please see our Server Recommendations (pdf).
Installation Recommendations: Never install AVM2000 Primary or AVM2KWS Workstation to a folder path containing spaces (such as Program Files or My Documents) or use punctuation other than an underscore in the folder path. Doing so will cause different types of errors operating AVM-2000.
WORKSTATION Recommendations:
- Any Windows-based PC running Windows XP, SP2, 32-bit; Windows VISTA; Windows 7, 32-bit or 64-bit, Windows 8, 10 or 11. Please see our Windows 10 Recommendations (pdf).
- Please note that some Windows 10 and 11 computers have networking limitations that could prevent AVM from working properly in a multi-user setup.
- Win 10 and 11 workstations should be fully rebooted at least once per week for best performance.
- 100 GB or larger Hard Drive with at least 10 GB remaining
- 2 GB or more RAM
- 1024 x 768 or greater Computer Monitor Resolution
- Most Inkjet, Deskjet or Laser style printers
Server Requirements / Recommendations:
- Your network and its server/software must support long filenames
- Strongly recommend using a dedicated server (users using peer-to-peer networking generally experience more problems with file corruption and other issues than those with a dedicated server) OR NAS Server
- Avoid using the server as a workstation, if possible
- For recommendations for Server 2008, 2012, etc., or Windows Vista or 7 used as a peer to peer server, please see our Server Recommendations (pdf).
- Minimize use of other applications on the server
- 10 GBs or more of free hard disk space on the server
- 8 GBs or more RAM
- Fast microprocessor
- REBOOT your server OFTEN if using peer-to-peer networking
- Use a local server machine. We do not recommend cloud-based hosting and cannot provide support for it.
Networking Requirements/Recommendations:
- Your network and its server/software must support long filenames
- Strongly recommend using a dedicated server (users using peer-to-peer networking generally experience more problems with file corruption and other issues than those with a dedicated server)
- High-quality network cards for all workstations
- Use UTP CAT 5 wiring
- Wireless networks may be used, but may cause data loss/errors if speed is too slow
- 10 MB networking NOT recommended
- 100 MB with UTP CAT 5 with a 100 MB Hub minimum recommended
- 1 Gigabit (1,000 Megabit) networking with a 1 Gigabit (1,000 Megabit) Hub for BEST performance
- Your workstations and server should NOT be running Windows XP Home edition
Alternative Server/Hosting for Networked/Multi-User AVM:
- Consider a dedicated NAS server such as a Synology Drive.
- All Synology drives seem to handle the SMB1 protocol with no problems. A dedicated NAS (network attached storage) server such as Synology DS218j or equivalent is quite reasonably priced (much less than a traditional server), and has good performance.
- There are also no licensing fees as with traditional servers. We use these drives here in our office and they work great; for less than $300 for the Synology unit (the drive/s are additional). (We purchased our Synology units and drives from Amazon.)
- The Synology drive is known to work well with Win 10 computers using applications such as AVM-2000. It holds 2 SATA drives and it is highly configurable. Ours is configured to be a RAID system, which provides redundancy. We would suggest getting 2 SSDs (solid state drives) for good performance.
- Then you would map each workstation to the Synology device with a mapped drive letter.
- We consider the Synology drive to be a long-term option for hosting the AVM-2000 application.
Networking Support: TangoWare will not be responsible for any difficulties with network problems. Our products are tested and work properly on properly configured networks. TangoWare will charge its regular hourly rates for ALL network-related Technical Support services provided under our Support Policies. Network support is not included with any Annual Maintenance Agreement.
For use with optional modules:
- Barcode Reader with the ability to scan 3-inch wide 3-of-9 barcodes. Recommend Symbol Technologies LS-2208, LS-4278, LS-1006 or equivalent. Available from SystemID Warehouse (1-800-397-9783) and other retailers. For use with Work Order forms; and ATC and Label printing optional modules.
- Desktop label printer with the ability to print 4-inch labels using 3 of 9 barcode font. We recommend Eltron/Zebra printer models 2442 / 2443, 2543, LP 2844, TLP 2844, TLP 2824, GX420T, GK420, UPS LP2844 or Wasp WPL305 EZ. Available from SystemID Warehouse (1-800-397-9783) and other retailers. For use with Log Book Sticker Printing and Label printing optional module.
Please take note that the LP (direct thermal) model labels can be affected by heat; potentially making them unreadable. (Think of a gas receipt left in your vehicle in the summer and how it turns black and illegible.) The TLP (thermal transfer) models use a special ribbon for printing that is not affected by heat. This is particularly important for log books that may be stored in aircraft.
- Adobe® Acrobat Software (not Adobe® Reader) for use with EDS optional module. Available at many retailers. Note: Some users have found third-party PDF editing software may be utilitized with the EDS (Electonic Document Storage) option, however we have not tested this. You would need to try this out on your system to determine if it will work or not.
- QuickBooks® 2008+ for use with the QuickBooks® Integration optional module. Available at many retailers. AVM-2000 will only work with locally installed/hosted QuickBooks® versions, and will not work with QuickBooks® Online.
NOTES: AVM-2000 Version 5 was tested and ran on Windows XP, but will not work with Vista, Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11. TangoWare is unable to provide installation and/or update support for AVM-2000 Version 5.
