Answers:

1) AVM-2000 tells me there is a missing font. How do I install the missing font ?

AVM-2000 missing fonts can be installed using the Font Installation Instructions (PDF).

2) Will it cause problems if I don't do the Reindex and Pack when AVM-2000 reminds me ?

Failure to Reindex and Pack regularly can lead to data loss due to file corruption. It is important to complete the Reindex and Pack routine on a weekly basis because it keeps your data files "healthy". In other words, the Reindex and Pack checks your files for problems that you may not be made aware of during normal AVM-2000 program operation. It reorganizes indexes, etc. and keeps your data files in good shape.

3) How often should I backup my AVM-2000 / data ?

It is highly recommended that you backup your AVM-2000 files on a DAILY basis. Even if you are a small facility, please keep in mind that it can take twice as long to recreate records as it did to enter them the first time; and you can never be certain that you have recreated the records exactly. This recommendation is based on our own experience and the experiences of our customers. Please see our Backup Recommendations (PDF) for more details and recommendations on how to best complete an AVM-2000 backup.

WARNING: We do not recommend an online backup service that continually backs up files throughout the day as it may not properly back up and could cause file corruption and other program errors.

4) What is the best way to backup my AVM2000 data ?

Please see our Backup Recommendations (PDF) for more details and recommendations on how to best complete an AVM-2000 backup.

WARNING: We do not recommend an online backup service that continually backs up files throughout the day as it may not properly back up and could cause file corruption and other program errors. Please refer to the PDF above for more detailed information.

5) There is no delete button available on the toolbar for me to delete a record. How can I delete a Work Order, Invoice, PO/Expense ?

Work Orders, Invoices and POs/Expenses cannot be completely deleted from the AVM-2000. However, you can "zero out" the dollar values for the WO, Invoice or PO by deleting parts/flat-rating amounts to zero, etc. Enter a brief description such as "Replaced by WO #99999" or "Order Cancelled". Then post the $ 0.00 amount to a "dummy" customer or vendor account. Most users create customer and vendor accounts called "VOID" for this purpose. This process maintains continuity in your sequence numbers and prevents accountability problems.

6) I created an Invoice (or Credit Memo or Customer Adjustment; or Vendor PO or Vendor Adjustment) but it doesn't show under the customer's (or vendor's) account or A/R or in my Monthly Totals ?

When an Invoice or other record such as PO is not showing under a Customer or Vendor's History, Balance or in Monthly Reports, A/R, A/P, etc., it is an indication that the Invoice or other record has not yet been POSTED. Invoices must be POSTED before they will show under a Customer's Account, Balance or Monthly Reports, A/R, etc. Use the POST button on the Invoice's (or other record's) Main page. Please note that POSTED records may not be edited.

7) I created a PO/Expense for the wrong vendor. How can I change the Vendor Code ?

As long as the PO has not yet been posted, users can click on the italic label "Pay Vend Code" or "Distrib Vend Code" and select the correct Vendor from the picklist provided. If the PO has already been posted, users will need to do a Vendor Adjustment and then recreate the PO for the correct vendor. Please note that this may require a manual adjustment to Inventory for any line items that have already been received in.

8) I have a UPS printer, but I can't get my Log Book Stickers to print correctly ?

When a log book sticker will not print properly to a UPS label printer, please refer to the AVM-2000 Help > Help files, the AVM-2000 Help > User's Guide, or the Log Book Sticker Printing Configuration (PDF).

9) I created an inventory report and generated an AEA Electronic File, but when I "browse" the results all I can see is my company name, fax #, etc. ?

In the pop-up Browse Results window, use the TAB key or the bottom scrollbar to scroll to the right. You will see your part entries as you move to the right. The AEA requires the other fields of information for their use.

10) I've added my own WO Task Types in configuration, but they don't show in the list on the WO Task Details page ?

If your configured task types are not displaying in the WO > Details > Task Types dropdown field, you will need to check your configuration to be sure that each Task Type is two (2) characters. One character Types will not display in the dropdown.

11) Is there a way to email Quotes or Invoices, etc. to people ?

AVM-2000 offers an integrated Print to File optional module that you can purchase to add-on this functionality inside AVM-2000. The Print to File module will create PDF files from most AVM printouts and then allow you to email them directly from AVM-2000 if your email provider allows. See our Print to File module details for more information.

12) How can I delete a Template from my Work Order Templates List ?

Work Order Templates can be deleted (removed from the Template list) by locating the original Work Order where the Template was created from, and remove the "Template Name" from the WO > Task Details page for that task. The original task will remain in the database, but will no longer show on the Templates picklist.

13) How can I add to or modify the Make/Manufacturer's List for Aircraft Records ?

The Databases > Aircraft > Main > Make dropdown list can be modified by users by accessing the Databases > Aircraft Mfgr Types menu option. Users can add new Types or delete Types that are not in use.

14) I am trying to run AVM-2000 on Windows XP, Service Pack 2, and I am getting an AutoExec.nt error. How can I fix this ?

Unfortunately, this is an issue on some computers with the Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324767  is the link to Microsoft's Knowledge Base Article about this problem.  Although not mentioned here, some testing in our development community has indicated that this is an issue because the AutoExec.nt file can get deleted during a Service Pack 2 installation. The other option we have been told will work is to search your hard drive for a duplicate "autoexec.nt" file and you may find it in another folder on your computer.  You can then try copying it back to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ folder.

15) I am trying to run AVM-2000 on Windows XP and I am getting an error message "AVM2000.EXE (or STARTAVM.EXE) has encountered a problem and must close". How can this be fixed ?

The issue with the message "AVM2000.EXE (or STARTAVM.EXE) has encountered a problem and must close" seems to be related to changes in the Windows XP operating system, such as a Windows Automatic Update, or Auto-Detected Printers. A while ago, the only way we knew to fix this problem was to reformat the computer's hard drive, re-install the operating system and shut off automatic updates.

After researching another customer's workstation with this type of problem, it was determined that there is most likely an error with the Windows XP automatically detected printers / printer names in the Printer List in the Control Panel.  We deleted approximately 6 automatically detected printers from the Printer control panel list on that workstation in order to get AVM-2000 to work on that workstation.  That left about 6 "real" printers in the list.  Two other customers reported this same error and we deleted all automatically detected printers from the Printer control panel list; and the workstation AVM-2000 began operating correctly.

This error problem with the EXE could be related to any of these issues:

a) punctuation within the printer name that Microsoft Visual FoxPro cannot accept (such as a %, #, @, etc.) or such as an accent symbol from a foreign language

b)  the length of a printer name was too long for Microsoft Visual FoxPro to accept.  Our research has uncovered that Visual FoxPro needs less than 60 characters to make up the printer name.  Printer Names over 60 characters may cause errors.

c)  automatically detected printers in the Printer control panel list.  (Windows XP has an Auto-Detect Printers function.  See below for more information.)

It would appear that to permanently fix this problem, you may want to SHUT OFF the Auto-Detect Printers function in Windows XP, and check that your printer names are not too long if one of your computers DOES encounter the error.  You can find the instructions on how to shut this off at www.microsoft.com  and search for Knowledge Base Article # 320138 or follow the instructions below:

To disable the automatic search for network printers and folders, follow these steps:

1. Click Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Folder Options to open the Folder Options dialog box.

2. Click the View tab.

3. In the Advanced Settings list, click to clear the Automatically Search for Network Folders and Printers checkbox.

4. Click OK.

This particular Windows issue has caused problems with other software applications as well.  It's possible that the Auto-Detect function was at one time shut off, and then perhaps one of the Windows Automatic Updates turned it back on again or changed some other setting that is causing a conflict.

16) I am getting an error “File c:\avm2kws\config2.dbf does not exist” when I try to run AVM-2000 at my computer. How can I fix this ?

This error, “File c:\avm2kws\config2.dbf does not exist” or "File c:\config2.dbf does not exist", generally occurs when a user has improperly selected their own local C:\AVM2KWS folder during a Select Directory window prompt instead of choosing the server's AVM2000 folder.

This can be fixed in a number of ways. If the Select Directory window appears the next time you try to start up AVM-2000 at your workstation, you can choose the correct drive letter and directory to the server's AVM2000 folder.

If you no longer see the Select Directory during startup of AVM-2000, you will need to replace the local workstation folder.

You can -1) Delete the AVM2KWS folder from the "broken" workstation. Go to another workstation that is working properly and copy the AVM2KWS folder to the "broken" workstation. ** Be sure that no one is using AVM on those workstations during the copy process. Make certain to choose the server's drive letter and AVM2000 folder during the Select Directory process.

Or - 2) Delete the AVM2KWS folder from the "broken" workstation. Then, re-install the AVM2KWS workstation installation to that computer. Make certain to choose the server's AVM2000 folder during the Select Directory process.

17) I am getting an Exception Error, or an error that the QuickBooks® file I am attempting to open is different than the one I'm working with when trying to connect AVM-2000 to QuickBooks®. How can I fix this ?

This error generally occurs when there is a mapping discrepancy between AVM-2000 and QuickBooks®. Users must access their Company file inside QuickBooks® using the same path that AVM-2000 is configured to use.

Example: AVM-2000 is configured to use the following path: Z:\QuickBooks\MyCompany.QBW. The file you open in QuickBooks® must be opened from the same path. (It cannot be opened from a UNC path such as \\myserver\shared\qbooks\MyCompany.QBW or C:\QuickBooks\MyCompany.QBW).

To ensure that the path information is correct inside QuickBooks®, go to QuickBooks® and click on the File Menu > Open or Restore a Company File. Choose "Open a Company File" and click Next. Locate your server's mapped drive letter for accessing QuickBooks®. Using the example above, that would be the Z:\ drive, then double click on the QuickBooks folder and then click on the MyCompany.QBW file and click the Open button.

19) Is the AVM-2000 software FAA-approved ?

The AVM-2000 software itself does not have "FAA approval". Each AVM-2000 licensee is responsible for obtaining any necessary FAA approvals for their use of the AVM-2000 software and any optional AVM-2000 features/modifications. Users with questions about approvals should contact their local FAA FSDO or CHDO. Your AVM-2000 purchase does not imply or guarantee FAA approval of your use of the software. Each user must obtain their own FAA approval. TangoWare is not responsible for any unapproved use of the AVM-2000 software.

20) How can I unlock AVM-2000 if I closed/exited out of the program before unlocking it ?

If you have closed AVM-2000 and locked yourself out of the program, you can go to your SERVER's AVM2000\DATA folder and double-click on the _LOCKOUT.EXE file. This will open a form that looks like the internal Lockout form and will allow you to STOP the lock process externally.

21) I am getting an error about a missing MSVCR71.dll file when I try to run AVM-2000. How can I fix this ?

If you get an error while trying to run AVM-2000 that an MSVCR71.dll file is missing, you will need to put a copy of that into the computer's Windows > System32 folder. This DLL file can be copied from another computer, or you may do a Google search and download it from the internet. This DLL file has been found to be missing when Windows XP has been re-installed onto a computer and is no longer using the original factory Windows installation.
